I love the holidays! I am on a “Holiday High” from Halloween through New Years Day. I love the food, the decorations, the music, the traditions—mine or adopted—but I don't love the presents! Don't get me wrong, I love giving them. But I get stressed out deciding what to give. What if it's the wrong size? Too big is bad but too small is worse. What if it's the wrong color, length, shape? What if they already have one? You can see how worked up I get! But since beauty is something I know, I have a few ideas I'd like to share for other gift-a-phobes (or anyone who has run out of ideas). Here are a few suggestions that could turn out to be one of those gifts you buy two of...one to give, one to keep!

My friend Fatima (yes, we have the same name) is a model. She's tall, thin, and—needless to say—beautiful. Even without makeup she looks fantastic, but there is one area where she enhances what nature gave her. When doing her makeup for a shoot recently, I noticed her lashes were incredibly thick and luxurious, even without mascara. I have been seeing an increase in the popularity of lash extensions (a single lash bonded to extend and thicken the appearance of the natural lash) over the last few years, but I can usually tell close up when someone has had this done. With Fatima's lashes, I had to ask, and she shared her secret: Heidi Minea. The lashes looked so amazing, I had to meet Heidi and watch her work her magic. I LOVE nail polish! I just recently organized my nail polish and counted well more than 100 shades (and that's not counting the mini nail polishes). What is it about nail polish that makes me so giddy? First of all, I love color: subtle, bold, bright, crazy, you name it. And when you put it on your nails (especially your toes) you don't have to worry about whether it makes you look fat, or if it's in fashion: You can just wear it because it makes you happy. So it's with much excitement that I look forward to the launch of Salma Hayek's Nuance nail lacquers at CVS, scheduled for November 19. According to WWD, Salma's daughter Valentina was the inspiration to add nail colors to the line (as well as making them less toxic). Salma is not the only mom who lives with a nail polish diva. I have done two mani-pedis this weekend alone on my daughter. (That's more than I get in a month!) If the eyes are the window to the soul, then it stands to reason that the eyebrows are the frame of the window. And a great frame enhances without drawing attention to itself. Eyebrows are incredibly important to the finished face, even though they should play a supporting role to the eyes. The brows direct the attention to the eyes by creating a visual boundary. It's important to follow the natural shape as much as possible and remember subtlety is key. |
